I am a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Washington (PY60304137; https://fortress.wa.gov/doh/providercredentialsearch/ ). The expanse of my formal education has been throughout the state of Washington, having received my undergraduate degree in psychology from Washington State University and my doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Seattle Pacific University. My doctoral dissertation examined somatic (bodily) symptoms in women related to gender role strain and the experience of negative emotional states.
My clinical training includes exposure to an array of environmental settings, working with diverse cultural and client populations, utilizing evidence-based practices. Training includes psychiatric evaluation and treatment at Western State Hospital, acute trauma and rehabilitation psychology at Harborview Medical Center, and telephone-delivered cognitive-behavioral therapy for chronic pain through the University of Washington School of Medicine. I completed a pre-doctoral internship with the VA Pacific Island Healthcare Systems, in Honolulu, HI, including rotations in primary care, geriatric and community living, mental health triage, and PTSD residential rehabilitation.
Following internship, I was employed as a civilian psychologist on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam treating active duty Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corp service members. After 5 years on the beautiful island of Oahu, I returned to Washington state where I worked as a generalist practitioner in private practice for several years. Additionally, I spent 5 years in Human Resources, learning the impact of work environment, work-life (im)balance, work stress and work excess, and hierarchical workplace structure on psychological functioning
My theoretical orientation and practice approach is rooted in psychological science, evidence-based treatment, and the client-centered relationship. I take an integrative approach to treatment, having received training in cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and psychodynamic modalities, and I work collaboratively with you to assess symptoms, identify problems and/or impairment in functioning, and alleviate distress. I also utilize relaxation training techniques, Socratic questioning, and nature in my work.
I wholeheartedly enjoy the study and practice of psychology. A defining quality of successful work with others is secure, meaningful relationship. In my practice, I offer this connection through warmth, genuineness, and non-judgmental understanding to build a safe and trusting relationship with you. I enjoy working with people across the lifespan and experience diversity as the intersection of differences between people. At Northwest Telepsychology, I welcome all people, in similarity and difference.
